What is this "AFL" I'm hearing about?

Dear Parents,
With parent/teacher conferences coming up, as you visit schools, classrooms, and teachers, you may see or hear the phrase "Assessment For Learning," or AFL.  When you hear this, think instructional strategies.  MSAD #6 teachers continue to put much time, energy, and emphasis on learning and using instructional strategies that have a high impact on student learning and growth.

Thank you to all our IT staff for all you do for us.  Without you we would probably crash, have a corrupt system, overheat, not have enough memory, or maybe even have a virus!

You all do us B.E. Proud!

Welcome new teachers to MSAD #6!

Orientation occurred this week for our 30 new Bonny Eagle teachers!  Among all the presentations, trainings, technology lessons, and meet & greets with administrators and colleagues, we had the 3rd annual bus tour of the district.  The bus, driven by BEMS principal Ben Harris with narration by Superintendent Paul Penna, started at Central Office and made a stop at each of our eight schools, transportation and maintenance departments, the technology and adult ed building, and the alternative education building.  It's become a very fun (although very long!) ride that gives our new teachers a look at our communities and schools and some perspective and appreciation for the size of MSAD #6!

Access to School, District, and State Report Cards

The Maine Department of Education annually releases data showing how each school, district, and the state are performing on a wide range of educational goals.  These dashboards include a Snapshot tab that provides important information about each school or district in a two-page, printable format; and other tabs that deliver in-depth information at the school, district, and state level.

To access the dashboard, click HERE.

Modeling Energy Flow in an Ecosystem

How do you show and explain the flow of energy in an ecosystem, through engineering a visual system, running trials and making improvements?  Ms. Dumont's Honors Biology classes and BEHS have been working through that this week.  Each section of their design represents a part of an ecosystem.  Presentations will follow, where students will justify these representations and talk about their engineering design process.  Well done guys.

Bread baking

Classrooms at Hollis Elementary had the opportunity to do some baking before the holiday break, with Mrs. Pinkham, their teachers, and some parent volunteers.  Students were at stations slicing cranberries, mixing dry ingredients, cracking eggs, and prepping loaf pans, and learned the importance of reading and math skills in baking!  Each student was able to take home their own mini-loaf of cranberry bread.
